Look outside the Marketing box for Six
Sigma expertise
There may be a
key corporate resource you haven’t considered including when planning your
marketing campaigns.
That’s because
for many corporations, Six Sigma knowledge resides primarily on the production
side. These experts may be just the resource you need to save time and improve
results.
For example, a
certified Six Sigma black belt or green belt can confidently affirm the
significance of your Marketing process goals.
The Six Sigma
expert also will determine whether the data you compile follows a normal
distribution, which can help save you from being led astray.
Their
manufacturing focus will not prevent them from being able to analyze marketing
data. To a large degree, data is data.
So what are Six
Sigma black belts and green belts?
·
Black Belt.
This designation is for those whose job is totally designed around
delivering on Six Sigma project initiatives.
They may or may not actively run these projects, as they are often
mentoring several Green Belts at once on their individual projects. Some organizations have a “Master Black Belt”
classification – this is the person in charge of the other Black Belts’
development and project deliverables.
·
Green Belt.
This designation is similar to a Black Belt, with the very important
distinction that the person holding a Green Belt will also be employed full
time in another role/job. In many
leading companies, most general managers are Green Belts. Certification usually
entails two weeks of intense training followed by completion of two certifying
projects within the following year. Most
Green Belts are expected to be working on two projects at any given time.
·
Yellow Belt. This designation is for those who have
been familiarized with Six Sigma. This level normally entails several days of
training and may or may not involve a “certification process” that includes
completing one or more projects.
While all belt
designations play a function within a company’s overall Six Sigma goals, you
should not expect a Yellow Belt to understand the complexities of a complete
Six Sigma program.
If your
organization doesn’t have a Six Sigma black belt, make sure your marketing
agency does.
